About eViva

Oral vivas for the classroom, at the scale a real school runs at.

eViva brings the oral viva, the spoken defence of one’s own work, to the everyday classroom. A teacher sets a short question against a piece of work, each student records a spoken answer from their own browser, and the teacher reviews the responses on a single dashboard. It is built for the scale a real school runs at, not a one-off exam hall.

Why we built it

Written work alone no longer tells a teacher what a student actually understands. When anything can be generated in seconds, the spoken answer, given in the student’s own words and own voice, is one of the few honest signals left. eViva exists to make that signal practical to collect across a whole class, every week, without timetabling a room full of one-to-one interviews.

Who makes it

eViva is built in the UK by teachers and an engineer, and operated by Copeland Digital Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are a small team that would rather get the assessment and the data handling right than chase every feature.

How we handle data

The most sensitive thing eViva touches, the video recording of a student, never sits on our servers. Recordings upload straight from the student’s browser into the school’s own Google Drive or OneDrive. eViva’s database holds only the surrounding metadata: names, questions, timestamps, and session events. The full operator-side detail, including the sub-processors and the documents to request for a DPIA, is set out on our compliance page.
